Along with doing a season of 24 hour prayer in your own church each year, we invite local congregations
to partner with us and four other local churches to do six days of united 24/7 prayer, once a year or once every two years.
How does this work? In 2008, AHOP will host two week-long events in its prayer room. After you identify which event your church will participate in,
we will ask for your congregation to sign up for 24-40 of the total hours, split evenly between the daytime and nighttime.
We will provide you with materials to publicize the event, an online calendar so that your members can sign up, and training for those who sign up.
Then, during the actual event, those who have signed up will come and pray - following our three guidelines:
- Show up 10 minutes before the prayer time
- Pray at least one Biblical prayer
- When finished, pray a blessing for the group that follows
One body under one head. We cherish and honor the diversity God has placed in His body.
We desire to see the unique strengths, gifts and holy callings of each expression of Christ’s body used in a way where we submit to each others strengths and
protect each others weaknesses. For example, one church is strong in discipleship while another is strong in evangelism, another really serves the poor faithfully,
while another has an uncommon gift for worship. When they join in united 24-7 prayer we will help these four churches identify these strengths,
encourage them to not only pray for and encourage each other in their strengths,
and also learn from each other and partner with each other in areas where we are not so strong.
This is a beautiful expression of the humility Christ has placed in His body.
How will this affect your church? Do you want to see more prayer in your church? Give it away! Nothing will encourage your congregation
to grow in prayer quite as much as praying with others from around the city! The excitement of meeting with the living God and standing in the gap before Him
on behalf of other people is easier caught than taught - as a friend of ours says, "the more we pray, the more we pray!"
How will this affect the city? The Bible teaches that there is great power in humble agreement. We believe God takes great pleasure
in seeing His people gather across church & denominational boundaries to worship Him, and together with our brothers and sisters pray for our city and the nations.
A beautiful connection happens as one group finishes praying and hands off to another group. Throughout the six days walls of division begin to break down.
As Jesus prays in John 17 that our testimony depends on our unity, so history teaches that every time there has been united 24/7 prayer,
God has responded by releasing power for evangelism and missions. We expect a great turning to God in our wonderful city!
